Online Volunteering Team of the Year Award

PURPOSE: The purpose of the award is to recognize online volunteers' contributions to human development, to demonstrate how -- through effective online collaboration with volunteers -- development organizations can strengthen their activities and to showcase the diversity in which online volunteers can support development organizations.

The Online Volunteering Team of the Year Award presents an opportunity for both, online volunteers and organizations, to bring their online volunteering experiences and good practices to the attention of a global audience.

The teams' experiences may inspire others and thus help mobilize more individuals to volunteer their time and expertise for the cause of human development, and encourage more development organizations to strengthen their efforts by tapping into the rich resource that online volunteers provide.

ELIGIBILITY: Eligible for the award are online volunteering teams, comprising the organization's representative and the online volunteer(s) who have collaborated on an online volunteering assignment. Former winners of the Online Volunteer of the Year Award can also nominate their teams, however not for the same assignment/contribution they were awarded for.

CRITERIA: A jury made up of UNV representatives and external experts in volunteerism, development cooperation and online collaboration will review the nominations and select 10 Online Volunteer Teams of the Year based on the following criteria:

• Online Volunteer's contribution and commitment
• Organization's approach towards online volunteer involvement
• Online collaboration between organization's representative and online volunteer(s)
• Result of the online collaboration and impact on the organization's development activities

The ten winning teams are announced each year on International Volunteer Day, 5th December.

In the past, UNV honoured every year ten exceptional women and men who made an exemplary impact on human development by sharing their time, energy and expertise over the Internet and by demonstrating their commitment to volunteering.
The winners' profiles, which you can find in the "Stories" section, showcase the diverse possibilities in which volunteers can make a difference in development initiatives, the variety of causes strengthened through online collaboration, as well as the diversity of the volunteers' backgrounds.
